Combines: Fendt takes the headache out of headland turns | The Scottish Farmer

A heap of innovations have been introduced for the Fendt IDEAL series of large combine harvesters for the 2023 season.

These include the automated VariotronicTI Turn Assistant headland management system for more precise and efficient turns, through new lengths and heights for the unloading auger, to improvements for the cab that increase driver comfort.

This optimised and fully-automated headland management system reduces drivers' stress, saves valuable time and contributes to better efficiency at harvest.

The system enables the combine to turn independently according to the previously calculated and specified turning procedures. In bed mode, the combine works the field in small sections, leaving the unloading auger always on the side that has been cut, making it easier to unload whilst continuing to harvest.

For applications with narrow working widths, or in maize, the 'keyhole' turn can be used. If several combine harvesters are working on one area, U-turns support the work flow.

Fendt also now offers three new lengths for the unloading auger of the IDEALs – 7m (S), 8.4m (M), and 9.9m (L) – to replace existing auger lengths of 7.6m, 9.15m and 10.6m. The height for unloading is now 4.55m, 4.95m, or 5.35m, respectively.

Depending on the header width and auger length, the tractor can drive above or next to the swath and high trailers are loaded precisely and quickly even in uneven terrain. The new unloading auger lengths are available for the Streamer 140 and 210, while the new unloading height is used exclusively on the Streamer 210.

To cope with hilly terrain, there's also a a larger hydraulic pump and motor to provide more drive in hilly locations, or at high speeds, especially towing headers behind the combine between fields. This heavy duty drive is available for the Fendt IDEAL 8T, 9T and 10T models.

Better noise insulation, new storage options and a new cooling box will be just some of the aspects that have been revised in the familiar Fendt VisionCab cabin.

Improved cab insulation reduces noise levels by three decibels to an industry-leading 74 db under full load operation. New compartments on the rear wall of the cabin increase the storage options, while there's two USB charging sockets now available on the armrest, as well as a second terminal holder.

A new active cooler keeps food and drinks cold all day long, even in high outdoor temperatures, and can cool them down to zero degrees if desired.

For 2023 there's also new track and tyre combinations. A 30-inch/76cm track, or 800/70R38 front tyre will be available in combination with a 520/85R30 rear tyre – which gives the combine an external width of just 3.49m.

The variable speed header drive – especially useful in maize and familiar from the Fendt IDEAL 9 and 10 models – can now also be ordered for the Fendt IDEAL 7, 7T, 8 and 8T models.

Fendt adds more entry-level Corus combines

An electronically-controlled hydrostatic transmission is among the more significant upgrades to entry-level models in the Fendt combine range.

Replacing the 5185E and 5225E are three Corus models that also feature cab interior improvements, more electric in-cab controls for threshing and cleaning systems, and more options for grain separation.

Increased power lifts the Corus 518 model from the 176hp output of its predecessor to 185hp from a 4.9-litre four-cylinder AGCO engine, while the Corus 522 goes from 218hp to 225hp.

A third variant – the Corus 526 – then comes in with 260hp, these two more powerful machines being powered by an AGCO 7.4-litre six-pot diesel.

The revamped transmission, with electrically-operated pump, is said to respond more quickly to speed control inputs and in road travel mode automatically lowers engine revs to consume less fuel.

All three versions can be had with deep-stepped straw walkers as the sole separation mechanism or with the addition of the Multi-Crop Separator peg drum and grille for more intensive separation.

With this option, which was not available on the base model E-series combine, the same length walkers are retained, so active separation area is increased from 6.72sq m to 7.62sq m.

If growers are blessed by a hot, dry harvesting season, the grille beneath the MCS can be retracted out of the crop flow to preserve the quality of straw destined to be baled.

There are also more options up front in that AGCO’s Power Flow table in sizes up to 6.2m wide can be used with all three models.

Characterised by its extended knife position and conveyor belts carrying crop to the gathering auger, the Power Flow table has good seed retention and crop handling performance in oilseed rape, with performance advantages also demonstrated in wheat and barley in some situations.

Alternatively, growers can stick with AGCO’s conventional Free Flow design and gain capacity through working widths up to 7.6m.

Interior updates to the carried-over cab structure include a new seat-mounted control console with the addition of in-cab electric controls for top sieve and independent front and rear concave adjustment among the changes.
